The Featured Video block shows a featured video exactly where you place it. Use it in posts and pages, and in Site Editor templates and Query Loops. Each block can have its own player settings.
You do not need the block for featured videos to show. They still replace the featured image in your theme. Use the block when you want the video somewhere else, or in a block theme template.
Needs WordPress 6.3 or newer. The post type must be enabled under JetixWP → Featured Video → General.
Add the block
- In the block editor or Site Editor, click + and search for Featured Video. It is in the Media group.
- In the Source panel, under Show the featured video of, choose This entry or Another post.
- Save the post or template.
| Source | Shows |
|---|---|
| This entry | The video of the post, page, or product the block is in. In a Query Loop, each item shows its own video. |
| Another post | The video of the post you pick under Post with a featured video. Search by title. Only posts that have a featured video are listed. |
You can also insert Featured Video (from another post) directly from the block inserter.
The editor shows a still preview with the poster, the video source, and the post title. Nothing plays and nothing is counted in the editor. In a template outside a Query Loop, the block shows a note instead, because the video depends on the page it appears on.
Player settings
Open the Player panel. Each setting has three choices:
- Use global setting (on) or Use global setting (off): follows JetixWP → Featured Video → Controls. The brackets show the current global value.
- On or Off: overrides it for this block only.
The settings are Controls, Autoplay, Loop, Mute sound, Picture in Picture, and Download. Browsers only autoplay video that is muted, so set Mute sound to On with Autoplay. Download works for self-hosted videos only.
In the Autoplay on hover panel, Play when hovered works the same way. See Player controls and autoplay on hover.
When there is no video
In the When there is no video panel, set Show to:
- Nothing (default): the block shows nothing.
- The featured image: the block shows the post’s featured image instead.
Style
The block supports wide and full width alignment, margin, border radius, and shadow, in the usual block settings.
With RSFV PRO, the sitewide Video Aspect Ratio also applies to videos in the block. See PRO: Features and settings overview.
Good to know
- Videos from draft, private, or password protected posts only show to people who can see those posts.
- Views and plays from the block show as Block in Video analytics.
- Using a page builder or the Classic editor? Use a shortcode instead. See Page builders and shortcodes.
