Auto Generate Featured Videos with Video Studio

Video Studio auto generates short featured videos from templates. Pick a template and it fills itself from the post, page, or WooCommerce product. Preview it, then make the video. The video is made in your browser, saved to your Media Library with a poster image, and set as the entry’s featured video.

Nothing is sent to an outside service. Templates, fonts, and scripts come with the plugin.

Requirements

  • Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, on a secure (HTTPS) connection to your site. Safari can preview templates but cannot make the video yet.
  • The post type must be enabled under JetixWP → Featured Video → General. See Install Really Simple Featured Video.

Three ways to start

WhereWhat you clickWhat happens
Featured Video box on a post, page, or productCreate with Video StudioOpens the full editor for that entry.
JetixWP → Video StudioAuto Generate Video or Make in Studio on a rowAuto Generate makes the video in one step. Make in Studio opens the editor.
JetixWP → Video Tools → Manage Featured VideosAuto Generate Video on a row without a videoMakes the video in one step.

Auto generate in one step

  1. Go to JetixWP → Video Studio. Choose the Type, and search for the entry if needed. Turn on Only without a video to hide entries that already have one.
  2. Click Auto Generate Video on the row. Products with a price start with Product card. Everything else starts with Text reveal.
  3. Optional: pick another Template or Frame size, or turn on Also use the poster as featured image.
  4. Click Generate video and keep the tab open until it says Done.

The text, prices, and photos come from the entry. To change them first, click Customize in Video Studio.

Make a video in the editor

  1. Click Create with Video Studio in the Featured Video box, or Make in Studio on the Video Studio page.
  2. Pick a template from the Templates strip. Each card shows a live preview with your entry’s content.
  3. Change text and images on the Content tab, and colors and font on the Style tab. The preview plays after each change. Turn on loop to keep it playing.
  4. Pick a Frame size in the top bar.
  5. Click Make video. Keep the tab open until it finishes. You can click Cancel while it is being made.

If you switch templates after making edits, Video Studio asks first, because the new template starts again from the entry.

When you make the video from the Featured Video box, the box updates right away. Update the post to keep your other changes.

What gets filled in

From the entryUsed for
TitleHeadlines, names, and titles. In the post editor, unsaved changes to the title are used.
ExcerptSummaries, quotes, and reviews. Without an excerpt, the first 30 words of the content.
Featured imagePhotos. For products, the gallery images too.
Author and site titleBylines and small lines of text.
CategoryTags and labels. Products use the product category.
Price, regular price, saleProduct prices, the crossed-out old price, and a sale badge such as “-20%”.

Templates

TemplateWhat it shows
Text revealA big headline that rises in word by word, with a short line under it.
Image slideshowUp to 8 photos with a slow zoom and pan, and a title on top. Choose seconds per photo, photo fit, and a crossfade, slide, or zoom transition.
Product cardProduct photo, name, price, old price, badge, and a button text such as “Shop now”.
QuoteA quote that fades in word by word, then the author and their role.
News headlineThe post photo, a category tag, the headline, a short summary, and a byline.
TestimonialStar rating, a customer review, their photo, and name.
Kinetic typeThree short lines that slam, zoom, and type onto the screen.

Videos are 6 to 14 seconds long, depending on the template and the amount of text. A slideshow runs as long as its photos.

Frame sizes

  • 16:9, 1080p (Full HD) (default)
  • 16:9, 720p (HD)
  • 1:1, 1080 x 1080 (square)

Videos are made at 30 fps as MP4. If your browser cannot make MP4, it makes WebM instead. Video Studio keeps the file under your site’s upload limit. If the video is still too big, you are asked to try a smaller size.

The Frame size only sets the video file. How the video shows on your site follows your theme and the aspect ratio setting.

After the video is made

  • The video and a poster image are added to your Media Library and set as the entry’s featured video, with the source Self.
  • A video the entry already had is replaced without asking. The old file stays in your Media Library.
  • The Featured Video box then shows Edit in Video Studio. Video Tools and the Video Studio page show Edit in Video Studio or Remake in Studio.
  • If the entry changes later in a way the video used, such as a new title, image, or price, the box says so. Open Video Studio and make the video again.

Video Studio PRO auto generates videos from 20 more templates, and adds 9:16, 4:5, 60 fps and 4K sizes, music, a brand kit, every Google Font, big uploads past your host’s limit, and videos for many entries at once. See PRO: Video Studio PRO.
